Humboldt's College Readiness Programs

Early Assessment Program (EAP)

This program provides opportunities for students to measure their readiness for college-level English and mathematics in their junior year of high school, and facilitates opportunities for them to improve their skills during their senior year. We support all high school juniors and seniors throughout Humboldt, Del Norte, Trinity, Lake, and Northern Mendocino Counties.

Early Outreach Events

Our events and  activities focus on students enrolled in middle and elementary schools. Special attention is directed to providing students with informative and motivational presentations pertaining to college entrance requirements, admission tests, financial aid availability, and foundation courses needed to prepare for college.

GEAR UP is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides six-year grants to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school.

TRIO Talent Search

Talent Search TRIO is a pre-college program that provides services to help improve the academic strengths and college readiness of students in the 6th through 12th grades. The free services our Academic Advisors provide to eligible students include individual appointments, workshops, campus tours, and information for parents. All services are brought to the students' school site. The topics covered are designed with each age group in mind.

TRIO Upward Bound

TRIO Upward Bound serves students in six target area high schools in Humboldt and Trinity counties. The program is designed to enrich students’ secondary education and motivate and guide them to pursue and persist in a postsecondary education environment.  Humboldt County schools include Arcata High, Hoopa Valley High, and South Fork High. Trinity County schools include Hayfork High, Southern Trinity High, and Trinity High.
